We are delighted to announce our upcoming 2023 programme of artist residencies at Van Gogh House, the London boarding house where Van Gogh lived from 1873-4.

Each resident, mainly artist-duos, will live and work in the house for a month between March and August. Their practice over the 4 weeks will culminate in an event, inspired by the house and its unique heritage. Some of our residents will also create a series of small temporary interventions for the house, which the public can view during our guided house tours at the end of each month.

In line with our mission to support artists to make a living in their lifetime, we are delighted to expand our residency cohort this year, made all the more special by the 150th anniversary of Van Gogh living in the house.

Our warmest thanks go out to the artists, collaborators and funders involved in building the 2023 residency programme. Stay tuned for more information!

Nina Glockner and Sachi Miyachi’s collaboration is based on an attentiveness to site-specificity. They share a common interest in the performative character of objects and architecture, choreographing bodies while affording possibilities for interaction and participation.

Their residency is generously supported by The Embassy of the Netherlands in the UK and the Mondriaan Fund.

MES (Kanae Tanikawa & Takeru Arai)

MES are a Tokyo-based artist duo, formed by Kanae Tanikawa and Takeru Arai. Since 2015 MES have been making work that occupies the peripheries of contemporary art and club culture. With a deep interest in development, gentrification and migration, they observe the city.

We are proud to collaborate with The 5th Floor and representative director, Tomoya Iwata, on this residency, which is generously supported by The Great Britain Sasakawa Foundation.
